SNAME Greek section webinar: Development of the World’s First Zero-Emission Fast Ferry

October 22, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

As a result of ambitious climate targets and the need for more sustainable transport solutions in cities around the world, the number of electric  ferries and fast ferries is expected to grow rapidly in the years to come. Developments within battery technology have been vast within recent years, and ensuring efficiency, economy and safety are key parts of the development work.

In the Horizon2020 project TrAM (2018-2022, https://tramproject.eu ), 14 European partners are developing the world’s first zero emission fast catamaran ferry through advanced technology, modular production, and optimisation techniques. One demonstrator vessel will be physically built to operate a multi-stop commuter route into Stavanger, Norway from 2022. Construction will start in April 2021, and the demonstrator will be a fully electric fast passenger ferry with zero emission to air and sea.

In this webinar representatives from the TrAM project will share information about their development work and key findings from the hydrodynamic optimisation of the vessel.
